Treat Yourself: Oswego Harborfest returns with food, live music and children’s activities

Oswego Harborfest is back for its 37th year, and this free, family-friendly festival on the shores of Lake Ontario just keeps getting better. From July 23–26, downtown Oswego transforms into a lakeside celebration with four days of live music, a children’s parade, hands-on kids’ activities, a midway carnival, and one of the best fireworks shows in the state — all completely free to attend.

Whether you’re planning a full weekend or just popping in for the fireworks, here’s everything CNY families need to know.

The first Oswego Harborfest was held in 1988, and it has since transformed from a community event to a regional one, receiving more than 50,000 visitors each year, according to its website.

“I think what makes Harborfest unique is that the festival is free to attend,” said Executive Director Dan Harrington.”

When & Where Oswego Harborfest Is Taking Place

    Thursday, July 23 – Sunday, July 26, 2026
Festival events are spread across four venues in downtown Oswego:

    • Breitbeck Park — Main Stage, headline performances, Children’s Park, fireworks
    • Cahill Pier — On-the-water stage, local & regional acts
    • East Park/Washington Square — Intimate sets, variety, jazz
    • Water Street Pocket Park (new this year!) — Downtown, riverside performances

Shuttles run between venues throughout the weekend, so you don’t have to choose just one spot.

If you’re planning to attend the festival for the first time this year, Harrington recommends visiting its website, oswegoharborfest.com for a full list of events and attractions.

There certainly is a lot to see and do!

    This Year’s Headliners

Harborfest’s 2026 lineup is anchored by three major acts:

    • John Waite — Thursday, 8:30–10:30 PM, Breitbeck Park
    • Lanie Gardner — Friday, 7:00–8:30 PM, Breitbeck Park
    • Ashley Cooke — Friday, 9:00–10:30 PM, Breitbeck Park

Beyond the headliners, expect a full weekend of live music across all four stages — from Southern rock and blues to jazz and DJ sets on the Constellation Lakeview Stage Friday and Saturday nights.

    Highlights of This Year’s Festival

    Fireworks: Don’t Miss Them!

The Grucci Fireworks Spectacular is the moment everyone comes for — one night, launched directly over Lake Ontario and choreographed to music.

Saturday, July 25 · Approximately 9:15 PM (window is 9–10 PM, weather permitting)

    Best viewing spots:

    • Breitbeck Park Lawn — directly under the launch site; arrive early to claim ground space (no blankets allowed before the day of)
    • Cahill Pier — less crowded, wide-open lake views
    • Bridge Street Overlook — elevated view with the skyline and marina in frame

Pro tip for parents: blankets and tarps can’t be placed in city parks before 6 AM on Saturday, so plan your morning accordingly if you want a prime lawn spot.

    Fun for the Kids

This year’s Children’s Park and Children’s Parade theme is “Happy 250th Birthday, America!” — a fun, festive tie-in kids can dress up for if they’d like (costumes encouraged, not required).

Located in a dedicated section of Breitbeck Park, the Children’s Park runs all weekend with:

    • Live music and high-energy performances
    • High Flying Trampoline shows, multiple times daily
    • Puppet shows from Catskill Puppet Theater
    • Theater performances from The REV Theatre Company
    • Hands-on crafts, including a return of the popular T-shirt workshop
    • Carnival-style games (plinko, prize wheels, bean bag toss)
    • Bounce houses and an up-close wildlife encounter with Grace and Glory Animals

Children’s Parade — Saturday morning: Kids of any age can join, no sign-up required. Arrive at 9:30 AM for pre-parade crafts, then march around 10 AM through downtown Oswego. Parents are welcome to walk alongside younger kids.

Also new this year: the Lake Ontario Spectacle water shows return Friday and Saturday, with acrobatics and choreographed performances on the lake.

    Getting There & Parking

Harborfest has made parking easier this year:

    • Free parking at Romney Field House (SUNY Oswego, off Route 104 West on Sheldon Ave.)
    • Two shuttle routes connecting all festival venues and running all four days
    • Shuttle buttons are $5 for the entire weekend (kids 10 and under ride free), available in advance at Valti Graphics in Oswego or on the shuttles (cash only)

Given Harborfest draws crowds of 50,000+ each year, we recommend parking at Romney Field House and shuttling in — especially if you’re going on Saturday.
