Planning Your Concert Night in CNY: Tips for Parents
With so much happening across CNY this spring and summer, a little planning goes a long way — especially for parents who are trying to figure out which shows are worth the babysitter and which ones the whole family can enjoy together.
Research the Venue
As a general rule of thumb, the Lakeview Amphitheater and Landmark Theatre tend to skew toward adult audiences, while the NYS State Fair concerts and select Crouse Hinds shows like Planet K-Pop are genuinely great options for kids. Some Landmark shows — particularly Broadway productions and theatrical performances — can also be a wonderful treat for older children and teens, so it’s always worth checking the show details before ruling them out as a family outing. The Vine at Del Lago Resort and Casino is an adults-only venue, only admitting individuals that are 21 and up.
Plan Your Outing Ahead of Time
If you’re planning a grown-up night out at the Lakeview Amphitheater, one word of advice: book your babysitter early. Big shows like Jelly Roll, Mumford & Sons, and Tim McGraw tend to sell out quickly, and you don’t want to have your tickets in hand only to find yourself scrambling for childcare the week of the show. The same goes for popular Landmark and Crouse Hinds shows — locking in your sitter as soon as you buy tickets takes one big thing off your plate and makes the whole night feel that much more relaxed.
Keep Parking and Transportation Logistics in Mind
On the logistics side, the Lakeview Amphitheater can get busy on show nights, so arriving early is always a good idea — both for parking and for getting settled before the music starts. If you’d rather skip the parking shuffle altogether, rideshare is a great option and is well-supported at the venue. And if you’re heading to the NYS State Fair for a concert, the best part is that no extra planning is required — just pay fair admission, find your spot at Chevy Court or Suburban Park, and enjoy the show. It’s one of the easiest and most affordable ways to experience live music as a family all summer long.
As more shows are announced, we’ll be updating this guide regularly so you can use it as a resource well into concert season! If you’re looking for more family-friendly events in CNY, visit our CNY Events Calendar for more concerts and activities near you.
